We visited the petting zoo first and I fed the coin machine steadily while feeding pellets dispersed. We started in the barn and was greeted by a very wide, low to the ground goat with blue beady eyes. All the animals were friendly of course. One huge pig was laying on the ground and barely moved until Creed presented her with some yummy treats. I'd have to say our favorites were the llamas. One llama was very familiar with the coin machine full of feeding pellets. After you put in a quarter you barely had enough time to get the pellets before the llama started eating directly from the machine. Definitely not their first go-around. I kept thinking "Llama Llama Red Pajama," the title of a children's book by Anna Dewdney, which happens to be our book for this week, a very good read by the way. I love all the Llama Llama books. They're pretty hilarious and I totally relate to Mama Llama. Next we visited the giraffes and cooled off in the shade of an umbrella, while Creed ate some ice cream and I ate my pickle. We both enjoyed the animal show before leaving the zoo for the day. At the end of the show the zookeeper walked to the back of the room with an owl and let it go for a "silent flight" right up through the middle of the aisle. It was pretty amazing. She said it the wings made no sound because the ends of the feathers were hollow. I'd never heard of that before. Again, I'm reminded how much fun it is to learn. I'm glad there's still a little mystery.
I spent the morning organizing this week for homeschool, tying up loose ends. After getting it all down on paper and on the calendar I felt relieved to say the least. The rest of the day I cleaned the house and finally decided at 8 p.m. that enough was enough and would have to keep at it when Creed naps tomorrow, since I mowed while he napped today. It looked like rain so I thought it would be wise to go ahead and trim the grass and sure enough the rain came tumbling down.
I received an email today to try abcmouse.com, a learning website, for free. After going through registration, Creed played on there for about an hour while I finished folding and putting away the laundry. We usually use nickjr.com or pbs.org for learning games since they are free and I'm a huge fan of free. I'm not sure spending the monthly fee of $7-something would be worth it right now, but I may give it a day or so to decide. So, ready or not tomorrow comes. If we don't get it right we'll do it all over again the next day. I'm glad we're going through pre-school right now. No one puts the pressure on you like yourself.
